I am Ogawa from Nippon Television. Prime Minister, you will soon travel to New York to attend the United Nations General Assembly and deliver your address at the General Debate. What message do you intend to convey as the Prime Minister of Japan? Also, at the Japan-U.S. summit meeting scheduled for September 22, keeping in mind that a U.S.-China summit meeting is just around the corner, what views and understandings do you intend to share with President Trump? In addition, could you update us on the arrangements for summit meetings with the leaders of other countries?

First and foremost, I would like to offer my deepest condolences to those who lost their lives in the typhoon and extend my heartfelt sympathies to those who were injured. I have instructed the Chief Cabinet Secretary and Minister Hosono to ensure that the Government takes every possible measure with a strong sense of urgency and the utmost vigilance. I will now depart for the United States to attend the United Nations General Assembly.
This year marks the 70th anniversary of Japan’s accession to the United Nations. As for the content of my address at the General Debate, I was still making final revisions to my notes today and it is still being finalized. However, I intend to emphasize the issue of the abductions by North Korea, the importance of addressing climate change in light of the disasters occurring not only in Japan but around the world, the importance of upholding the rule of law, and the need for reform of the United Nations.
I will also explain Japan’s contributions to addressing the challenges facing the international community. Under our updated FOIP initiative, I intend to express our determination to exercise strong leadership in strengthening the resilience of supply chains, including energy supply chains; enhancing cooperation with the Global South; and addressing the challenges arising from technological innovation, including AI.
With regard to your question about bilateral meetings, first of all, I intend to again discuss reform of the Security Council with the United Nations Secretary-General, following up on the meeting we had in May.
In addition, arrangements for meetings with the leaders of various countries, including the Japan-U.S. summit meeting with President Trump, are currently being finalized. I intend to reaffirm our commitment to cooperation and coordination with the United Nations and countries around the world. That will be all from myself.
