[Opening Statement by Prime Minister Takaichi]
Regarding the earthquake that occurred at approximately 4:53 p.m. today, residents in areas subject to the tsunami warning are urged to evacuate immediately to higher and safer locations, such as elevated ground or designated evacuation buildings. Please pay close attention to tsunami-related information and remain in a safe place until the warning is lifted.
There is also a possibility that a “Off the Coast of Hokkaido and Sanriku Subsequent Earthquake Advisory” may be issued. Those living in areas where related disaster prevention measures should be taken are asked to reconfirm their daily earthquake preparedness, including checking evacuation sites and evacuation routes.
For approximately one week, as a special precaution in the event that a Subsequent Earthquake Advisory is announced, please maintain readiness to allow for immediate evacuation and keep emergency supplies with you at all times. On that premise, please continue your social and economic activities.
In particular, in coastal areas, if you feel strong shaking or if a tsunami warning is issued, it is critically important to evacuate immediately.
The government will continue to ensure that channels of communication are in place so that we can respond promptly in the event of any damage, and we will spare no effort in our crisis management response.
