On August 6, 2026, Prime Minister TAKAICHI attended the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Ceremony held at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park in Hiroshima City.
The ceremony, held on the 81st anniversary of the atomic bombing, was attended by approximately 50,000 people, including atomic bomb survivors and bereaved family members, as well as representatives of international organizations, including the United Nations, and representatives from 121 countries and regions and the European Union (EU).
At the ceremony, Mr. MATSUI Kazumi, Mayor of the City of Hiroshima, and representatives of the bereaved family members added the names of atomic bomb victims whose passing was confirmed over the past year to the cenotaph.
Following floral tributes offered by representatives of the bereaved families, representatives of the atomic bomb survivors, Prime Minister TAKAICHI, and others, the Peace Bell was rung at 8:15 a.m., the exact time the atomic bomb was dropped, and all participants observed a one-minute moment of silence.
Next, after Mayor Matsui offered a Peace Declaration and two child representatives recited the Promise for Peace, Prime Minister Takaichi expressed his heartfelt prayers for the repose of the souls of the victims and delivered an address.
Following the ceremony, Prime Minister TAKAICHI visited the Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, and then moved to a hotel in the city to attend a meeting with representatives of atomic bomb survivors, where she received requests from representatives of seven organizations. She then spoke to the press. Afterwards, she visited residents in a nursing home for atomic bomb survivors in the city.
