On April 15, 2026, Prime Minister Takaichi held a summit meeting with H.E. Mr. Donald Tusk, Prime Minister of Poland at the Prime Minister’s Office.

Following a salute and guard of honor ceremony, the two leaders held a meeting, after which they attended a signing ceremony and a joint press occasion. Finally, they held a working lunch.

Prime Minister Takaichi stated as follows at the joint press occasion:

“On behalf of the Government and the people of Japan, I would like to extend a warm welcome to Prime Minister Donald Tusk of the Republic of Poland on his visit to Japan.

At the meeting earlier, we had a fruitful exchange of views toward further strengthening our bilateral relations.

In the current international situation, where the security environment is becoming increasingly severe, cooperation with like-minded countries is more important than ever for the peace and prosperity of both our countries and the region.

On the basis of this understanding, we have decided to elevate our relationship with Poland to a ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.’ We will further strengthen our cooperation across a wide range of fields.

In particular, we agreed to further advance cooperation between the relevant authorities in the field of security, including cooperation in the defense industry, as well as the discussions on developing a framework for information security.

In the economic field, in addition to the signing of the social security agreement and the memorandum of cooperation in the agricultural sector mentioned earlier, we concurred on cooperation between our space agencies.

Looking ahead, in Poland, which is experiencing strong growth, we will strategically deepen cooperation in areas such as infrastructure and advanced technologies, including AI, and promote collaboration across a wide range of fields through close public-private coordination.

Furthermore, Poland serves as an important hub for the reconstruction of Ukraine. We will support projects undertaken jointly by Japanese and Polish companies in areas such as energy, logistics, and housing. In order to realize a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, we will further strengthen our cooperation with Poland.

Following this, over a working lunch, we will exchange views on cooperation toward the realization of a Free and Open Indo-Pacific, as well as on the situation in Ukraine.

With Poland, now a ‘Comprehensive Strategic Partner,’ we will further deepen our cooperation across a wide range of fields. Thank you, Prime Minister Tusk.”
