The former Kantei featured several historic staircases such as the front staircase known as the "Otoko no Hanamichi (Glorious Path of Man)", and the west staircase which was the scene of group photographs marking the formation of new Cabinets and Cabinet reshuffles.

Most movement between floors in the new Kantei is by elevator or escalator, but there are two staircases in the Entrance Hall just past the Front Entrance on the left. The stairs connect to the Grand Hall and Small Hall on the second floor and to the fourth floor amenities such as the Cabinet Room and the Special Reception Room.

Using the staircase gives a leisurely view of the beautiful Inner Court, which appears to have made them rather popular.

The west staircase provided the place in the former Kantei for commemorative photographs marking the formation of new Cabinets and other events, and in the new Kantei, the first photograph marking a Cabinet reshuffle was taken on the stair leading from the second to the third floor on September 30,2002.

This staircase too is surely destined to be inscribed with a lot of history.
