[Provisional Translation]

Opening Statement by Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga
(There was a statement on the overview of the Cabinet meeting.)

Q&As

(Abridged)

REPORTER: I have a question regarding North Korean issues. Some media reported that, towards the denuclearization of North Korea, the Governments of Japan and the United States are considering the establishment of a new committee at the United Nations Security Council to monitor the progress of the abandonment of its nuclear program. Could you please share with us the facts?

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: I am aware of the news reports. With respect to how we materialize the abandonment by North Korea of its nuclear program, it needs to be discussed among the countries concerned. At the recent Japan-U.S. summit meeting, the two leaders also discussed measures towards denuclearization. I would like to refrain from providing any more details.
