Press Conference by the Chief Cabinet Secretary (Excerpt)

[Provisional Translation]

Opening Statement by Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga
(There were statements on the overview of the Cabinet meeting, the ministerial discussions following the Cabinet meeting, and others.)

At today’s Cabinet meeting, it was approved that His Majesty the King Carl XVI Gustaf and Her Majesty the Queen Silvia of the Kingdom of Sweden will be received as guests on an official working visit from April 22 to 25. During their stay in Japan, Their Majesties the Emperor and Empress will invite Their Majesties the King and Queen to a dinner. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe and Mrs. Abe are scheduled to hold a meeting with Their Majesties the King and Queen and host a dinner in their honor. This year is a commemorative year marking the 150th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Japan and Sweden. His Majesty the King is known as a Japanophile, and the Imperial Family of Japan and the Royal Family of Sweden have maintained close and friendly exchanges. We hope that the visit of Their Majesties the King and Queen to Japan would further deepen the bilateral relationship between our two countries, which are important partners that share fundamental values.
