Press Conference by the Chief Cabinet Secretary (Excerpt)

[Provisional Translation]

Opening Statement by Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga
(There were statements on the overview of the Cabinet meeting and on the ministerial discussions following the Cabinet meeting, and others.)

The Hon. Malcolm Turnbull MP, Prime Minister of the Commonwealth of Australia, will pay an official working visit to Japan on January 18. Prime Minister Abe is scheduled to hold a summit meeting with Prime Minister Turnbull and host a dinner. Japan and Australia are “special strategic partners” that share fundamental values and strategic interests. We hope that welcoming Prime Minister Turnbull to Japan will further deepen the “Special Strategic Partnership” between the two countries that has been developed in a wide range of areas.

Q&As

REPORTER: I have a question regarding the G20 Summit. Some media have reported that the Government is set to host the summit either in Tokyo or Osaka. It has also been reported that the summit will be held sometime around June 2019. Is this true?

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: Nothing of that sort has been decided.

REPORTER: By around when do you plan to make these decisions?

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: We have still not decided when these decisions will be made, as the summit dates have not been finalized.
