Q&As

(Abridged)

REPORTER: I have a question in connection with the use of old Japanese-style houses. In the address you delivered earlier at Kyodo News, I believe you stated to the effect that it was important to train human resources for the establishment of sightseeing cities that make use of old Japanese-style houses. What form of Government supports do you have in mind?

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: First of all, recently, I observed Jokamachi-Sasayama. They are undertaking clever efforts to revitalize the city. They involve the use of old Japanese-style houses. A team has been formed there. It is an outstanding team. It includes people who do the planning, people who do the building work, people who operate hotels, as well as people who want to run businesses at such old Japanese-style houses. These people have formed a single group and are working as one to generate momentum together. Everyone was full of life and enjoying their work. I was truly envious of them. These people are not only in Sasayama but also in a number of other locations nationwide whom I know. I believe it is best that they foster other similar teams. Therefore, the Government hopes to create a system for expanding the network of people who have know-how in human resources and city development to get this work done.

REPORTER: I would like to change the subject. Governor Koike of the Tokyo Metropolitan Government (TMG) announced that Tsukiji Market is forecasted to relocate to Toyosu in winter of next year at the earliest. Can you please share the comments of the Government?

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: I am aware that such a schedule was announced. However, I believe that the Government is not in a position to make comments. In any case, TMG is the founder of the market, and I expect TMG will take proactive responses.
