Press Conference by the Chief Cabinet Secretary (Excerpt)

[Provisional Translation]

Opening Statement by Chief Cabinet Secretary Suga
In regard to the construction of the New National Stadium, last week Prime Minister Abe decided to cancel the existing plan and conduct a revision from scratch, instructing Minister Endo and Minister Shimomura to immediately formulate a new plan. Since there is only a limited amount of time until the Tokyo Games, today a Ministerial Council headed by Minister Endo will be established so that the Government can exert all efforts to formulate the construction plan for the new stadium and the Cabinet as a whole can share the responsibility of advancing its construction. The Ministerial Council is scheduled to be held later today, with the Prime Minister in attendance. The entire Government will work together to exert every effort to ensure that the New National Stadium is definitely completed in time for the 2020 Olympic and Paralympic Games and that the Games themselves are a great success.
