REPORTER: Yesterday, the Philippine Navy and the Maritime Self-Defense Force engaged in a joint training exercise. What do you think is the significance of demonstrating Japan’s presence in the waters of the South China Sea, a region where tensions are rising?

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: The vessels of all countries have the right of passage in international waters. In that sense, I believe that the exercises were implemented from the perspective that it is important to ensure that such passage may be ensured under the rule of law.
