Press Conference by the Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary (Excerpt)

[Provisional Translation]

Q&As

  • The issue of restriction of the imports from Japan to ROK

(Abridged)

REPORTER: The Government of the Republic of Korea (ROK), which restricts imports of marine produce from Japan, is to dispatch a group of experts next week to Fukushima and other locations to engage in on-site observations. What response is being planned by the Government of Japan?

DEPUTY CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SEKO: Members of an expert committee from the ROK arrived in Japan today, and the Government has announced that the committee members are scheduled to engage in on-site investigations from December 15 to 19. Since September 2013, when the Government of the ROK strengthened restrictions on the imports of marine produce from Japan, the Government of Japan has used various opportunities to strongly call for such restrictions to be rescinded in the near term. It is the strong expectation of the Government that this visit to Japan will serve to deepen correct understanding about the situation, which will lead to the realization of the restrictions being quickly rescinded.
