Press Conference by the Chief Cabinet Secretary (Excerpt)

[Provisional Translation]

Q&As

  • The issues related to South Sudan

REPORTER: This morning, in relation to South Sudan, you stated that Director Generals of Ministries and Agencies will be summoned by the Deputy Chief Cabinet Secretary for Crisis Management. Has this already happened?

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY SUGA: Yes it has. In order to allow us to address the situation as best we can, the Information Liaison Office concerning South Sudan affairs was formed within the Crisis Management Center at the Prime Minister's Office at 3pm today. As for the safety of Japanese nationals, we are yet to have received any information that suggests Japanese nationals have been affected. We are currently discussing the possibility of raising the travel safety advisory level for Juba in South Sudan from the current "Please reassess your need to travel" to "Postponement of travel is recommended." The Japanese Self-Defense Forces (SDF) deployed in the area are not in any immediate danger, but we will do everything we can to ensure the safety of SDF personnel. This is the current situation.
