(Abridged)

REPORTER: Yesterday, the Cabinet Office released the findings of the first public opinion survey conducted on the abductions of Japanese citizens by North Korea. What are your thoughts regarding this? Also, nearly 80% of the Japanese people surveyed responded that they would like awareness to be raised about the Government's structures and initiatives for resolving this issue. In light of these findings, how does the Government intend to tackle this issue moving forward?

CHIEF CABINET SECRETARY FUJIMURA: I believe the findings showed that a majority of the Japanese people were aware of the abduction issue and its various aspects. Meanwhile, I believe 40% of the respondents stated that they would like to participate in publicity and awareness-raising activities, events, and other such opportunities. I believe Minister (for the Abduction Issue) Jin Matsubara, who is also the secretary-general of the Secretariat of the Headquarters for the Abduction Issue, held a press conference today. I understand Minister Matsubara stated today that the Government will continue to promote publicity and awareness-raising activities which the people can more easily participate in, as well as further promote the review of such activities in regard to their detailed ways and approaches.
