Statement by the Chief Cabinet Secretary on the Visit to South East Asia by Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress of Japan

Their Majesties The Emperor and Empress of Japan made an official visit to the Republic of Singapore and the Kingdom of Thailand.

Their Majesties also made a visit to Malaysia on their way.

Their Majesties traveled for 8 days from 8th June, and returned to Japan on 15th safe and sound.

During the visit, Their Majesties were warmly welcomed by President and Mrs. Nathan of Singapore, Their Majesties the King and Queen of Malaysia and Their Royal Highness Sultan and Sultanah of Perak. In Thailand, Their Majesties participated in the 60th Anniversary Celebrations of His Majesty King Bhumibol's Accession to the Throne, and Their Majesties were also cordially received by His Majesty King Bhumibol and Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. Their Majesties have enjoyed friendly talks with other royal families who also participated in the event.

They heartily enjoyed opportunities of exchanges with people of these countries.

It is truly a matter for congratulation that a great contribution has been made to the advancement of friendly relations between Japan and those countries Their Majesties have visited.

Moreover, it is expected that, thanks to this visit, friendly relationship with those countries will be strengthened even further in future.
