Advisory Council to Consider the Modalities of the Three Postal Businesses

The three postal businesses (postal services, postal savings and postal insurance) have been restructured into the Postal Services Policy and Planning Bureau of the Ministry of Public Management, Home Affairs, Posts and Telecommunications, tasked with planning and management, and the Postal Services Agency, the external agency of the Ministry tasked with implementing operations, as part of the reorganization of central government ministries in January 2001.

The Postal Services Agency is to become a postal public corporation by the end of FY2003. In order to advance a detailed discussion on the modalities of the three postal businesses following its reorganization, including the issue of privatization, the first meeting of the Advisory Council to Consider the Modalities of the Three Postal Businesses was held on June 4, 2001, and it is expected to compile specific proposals over approximately one year.
