Thursday, May 10, Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda received a courtesy call from Mr. Khin Aung Myint, Speaker of the Amyotha Hluttaw of the Republic of the Union of Myanmar and its delegation, which is currently visiting Japan. An outline of the meeting is as follows.

  1. On behalf of Japan, Prime Minister Noda welcomed the fact that over the past year, Myanmar has vigorously pursued democratization, national reconciliation and economic reform, and expressed his hope for further progress. He stated that Japan would support these reforms under its new assistance policy toward Myanmar.

  2. In response, Mr. Khin Aung Myint explained that Myanmar's parliament is acting upon the will of the people and continuing its efforts toward reform. He noted the importance of continued support from Japan in promoting reform, and requested Japan's assistance.
