Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda held the 18th meeting of the Local Sovereignty Strategy Council at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on the general abolition of ministerial branch offices.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address,

"Regarding the issue of the elimination of ministerial branch offices in principle, it has been discussed repeatedly and actively in this council. We have also had various opinions from the members in the previous meeting.
By taking into consideration the opinions we have received until now to the utmost extent, today I have presented the Bill on Ministerial Branch Offices, which is a bill on the transition of the clerical work of specified local administrative organs of the national government, among others.
The Bill on Ministerial Branch Offices is an important pillar for the local sovereignty reforms, and the Government would also like to take steady steps forward, based on the discussion today."
