Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda held the eighth meeting of the Headquarters for the Promotion of Privatization of the Postal Services at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on the situation after the enforcement of the revised Postal Service Privatization Act and the findings related to the study and deliberation by the Postal Privatization Committee. A decision was made on the instructions for the smooth execution of the work of Japan Post Co., Ltd. after its merger, and other matters.

Based on the decision, the Prime Minister said,

"The revised Postal Service Privatization Act came into effect as of October 1. In addition to the change of the organization of Japan Post Group from five companies to four companies, an environment was developed to allow for maintaining universal services, increasing the motivation of staff, and considering new business.
Also, from the perspective of securing precious financial resources for reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake and to reduce people's burdens, Japan Post Holdings is required to enhance its corporate value and put its business on track as soon as possible.
Furthermore, it is expected that the company will be reborn as the new Japan Post Group, with regionality and communality, in response to high expectations from local residents and users.
Therefore, we have decided to make instructions and requests to Japan Post Co., Ltd. and the Postal Privatization Committee in order to realize even better privatization of postal service.
I would like to ask the newly appointed Minister for Postal Service Privatization, Mr. Mikio Shimoji, and other relevant ministers to actively work on putting Japan Post Holdings' business on track and improving convenience for users, while also carrying on the will of former Minister Matsushita."
