Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda attended the first Follow-up Meeting for Postal Reform Issues at the Prime Minister's Office.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "I have heard that Minister Matsushita has been taking the initiative to make various preparations so that the revised Postal Service Privatization Act, which was passed during this session of the Diet, be put into force on October 1.
Under such circumstances, it is very timely for the government and the ruling parties to follow up on the current situation of postal service through this meeting. As a result of the revision to the Act, an environment has been developed for Japan Post Holdings to expand its new business. Also from the perspective of securing precious financial resources for reconstruction from the Great East Japan Earthquake, Japan Post Holdings is required to enhance its corporate value and put its business on track as soon as possible. Furthermore, it is expected that the company will be reborn as the new Japan Post Group, with regionality and communality, in response to high expectations from local residents and users.
I strongly hope that postal privatization will be realized in a better manner by gathering together the wisdom of the related parties under the new Act."
