Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda attended the Government-RENGO summit meeting held at the Prime Minister's Office.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "The comprehensive reform of social security and taxation systems has passed the House of Representatives, and is currently being discussed in the House of Councillors.
One issue that must be achieved simultaneously with the comprehensive reform is the revitalization of the Japanese economy.
We were able to compile the Strategy for Rebirth of Japan at the Council on National Strategy and Policy on July 30.
The major pillars of the strategy are "Green," "Life," "Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries," and "Mid- and Small-Sized Enterprises." According to these pillars, we would like to prioritize the measures to be taken. The key test for such prioritization is how we can focus the allocation of budget to these areas in the formulation of the budget for the new fiscal year.
What we must comprehensively implement simultaneously with the comprehensive reform and economic revitalization is the political and administrative reform, which means to tighten our own belts. As for administrative reform, the bill on the details of the reform including the reduction of the number of Diet members is currently being submitted to the House of Representatives. We are willing to put our efforts into the enactment of this bill, so that we can reach a firm conclusion. Regarding the administrative reform, the Headquarters for Administrative Reform Implementation was launched with Deputy Prime Minister Okada taking the lead. It is expected that the headquarters will set out various menus in sequence and put them into practice.
I would like to put utmost effort into the remaining session of the Diet so that numerous important issues will be moved forward."
