Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda attended a meeting of the Frontier of Prosperity Panel of the Frontier Subcommittee of the Council on National Strategy and Policy held at the Cabinet Office Main Building.

The Frontier of Prosperity Panel is one of four panels established under the Council on National Strategy and Policy. Its objective is to present a new frontier from the perspective that Japan needs to newly build prosperity in the globalizing economy, by setting a society with a large middle class as the desirable form for the Japanese economy.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "Various ideas are being provided for Japan to enjoy prosperity under the considerably large restriction that this country must develop its economy while the population is decreasing. In particular, I believe that a wonderful direction has been suggested in that we will be investing in the future instead of exploiting wealth from the future. There are also proposals on the employment and education systems where there are a chance to have a "return match," which means that there are opportunities to try again or learn again. I believe that the discussion is heading in a very good direction.
It is scheduled that the intermediate report will be compiled by the end of May. Since this is a quite important sector related to how Japan can make its living in the 21st century, I look forward to proactive exchanges of opinions and the creation of a wonderful vision."
