Prime Minister Yoshihiko Noda attended the 11th Ministerial Meeting on the Overseas Deployment of Integrated Infrastructure Systems held at the Prime Minister's Office.

During the meeting, views were exchanged with experts on exporting infrastructure systems to India.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said, "There are enormous infrastructure demands around the world and especially in Asia. One challenge for Japan right now is to strengthen its efforts to promote high-level economic partnerships in order to bring down trade barriers.
At the same time, we need to make efforts to deploy Japan-made infrastructure systems in Asia as a way to utilize Japan's advanced technology and know-how. It is important that these two are advanced simultaneously. By doing so, I believe we can create a positive cycle of economic prosperity in Asia and the rest of the world as well as economic revitalization of Japan.
Furthermore, it is the responsibility of Japan to utilize the experience and lessons drawn from the March 11 earthquake. It is a challenge not only for Japan but for the world to build infrastructure systems that are resilient to disasters.
Although Japan has a world-class technological capability, this alone does not guarantee success in global competitions. The challenge for us is to combine our excellent technology, management know-how, capable human resources, and finance into a package and export them as a system of incomparable quality. We need to come up with such systems in fields where Japan has an advantage, and aggressively open up new frontiers.
I would therefore like to have space technology, disaster mitigation, and green urban development included in this ministerial discussion, in addition to the fields discussed so far.
Going forward, while focusing on Asia, I believe we must also consider the Middle East, Latin America, and other emerging economies as potential export destinations. Both the public and private sectors must maintain a lofty viewpoint and a wide-ranging perspective, and together come up with bold strategies. I would like to ask for your further cooperation to this end."
