Prime Minister Mori visits Brunei Darussalam from 14 to 17 November 2000 to attend the APEC leadersf meeting which is held from 15 to 16 November.

APEC (Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation) was established in 1989 in response to the growing interdependence among Asia-Pacific economies. Its goal is to advance Asia-Pacific economic dynamism and sense of community. Its current 21 member economies are as follows: Australia; Brunei Darussalam; Canada; Chile; Peoplefs Republic of China; Hong Kong, China; Indonesia; Japan; Republic of Korea; Malaysia; Mexico; New Zealand; Papua New Guinea; Peru; Philippines; Russia; Singapore; Chinese Taipei; Thailand; United States of America; and Viet Nam.

It was at Blake Island near Seattle, U.S.A., in November 1993 that the APEC economic leaders met for the first time for informal discussions.

The theme of APEC 2000 Brunei is brought together under the banner of gDelivering to the Community.h

In Brunei Prime Minister Mori also holds bilateral meetings with President Kim Dae Jung of the Republic of Korea and with President Putin of the Russian Federation on 15 November and with President Clinton of the United States on 16 November.
