Statement by Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi on the Occasion of the Passing of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud

  1. On the passing of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud, I express my heartfelt condolences on behalf of the Government of Japan and the people of Japan to the bereaved Saud family, the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people.


  2. The late Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Fahd bin Abdulaziz Al-Saud devoted his whole life to attempting to realize peace and stability not only of the Islamic world but also of the entire world. The late King Fahd, moreover, brought about development and prosperity of Saudi Arabia. On the diplomatic front, he played a vital role for many years to realize prosperity of world economy through achieving peace in international community and stability in international energy markets.


  3. The passing of such an eminent leader is considerably great loss not only for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, but also for many other countries, among which is Japan, holding good relationship with Saudi Arabia.


  4. I sincerely hope that the Government of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and its people under the leadership of the new King Abdullah will be able to overcome their sorrow as soon as they possibly could, and continue to strive for achieving further development of the Kingdom and peace and stability in the Middle East, as well as in international community. At the Same time, I express my heartfelt hope that the friendly and cooperative relationship between Japan and the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia will further advance as we overcome our sorrow.
