19th Meeting of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy
The 19th Meeting of the Council on Economic and Fiscal Policy was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.
At the meeting, the Basic Policies for Economic and Fiscal Management and Structural Reform 2006 were reported to Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi.
During the meeting, Prime Minister Koizumi said, "The Basic Policies 2006 should be decided promptly by the Cabinet to serve as the basic policies for the government concerning economic and fiscal management and structural reform from now on. There is no end to structural reform. I hope that the members of the Council will work firmly on the enhancement of growth and competitiveness, restoration of fiscal health, as well as on the realization of a society that is safe, reassuring, flexible and diverse in view of the next decade, the 'decade for new challenge,' based on the Basic Policies 2006."
The Basic Policies 2006 were decided at an extraordinary Cabinet meeting held immediately after the meeting of the Council, and Prime Minister Koizumi issued a statement on the Basic Policies 2006.
