The 14th Meeting of the Intellectual Property Policy Headquarters was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

At the meeting, the Intellectual Property Strategic Program 2006 was decided. The Program decided consists of six pillars: i) Reinforcement of countermeasures for counterfeit goods; ii) Promotion of innovation; iii) Reform of the patent application structure and realization of a global patent system; iv) Support for small- and medium-sized enterprises and local communities; v) Formation of a nation that creates culture; and vi) Human resource development for intellectual property.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said, "We have been working on intellectual property reform. Our smooth progress is the very fruit of your guidance and cooperation, for which I am sincerely grateful. Thanks to your efforts, we were able to decide on the new Intellectual Property Strategic Program today. Now that the decision will be put into practice, I would appreciate your continued cooperation in this endeavor."
