Japan-Mongolia Summit Meeting

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi held a meeting with Mr. Miyeegombyn Enkhbold, the Prime Minister of Mongolia, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Koizumi congratulated Mongolia on celebrating the 800th anniversary of the Birth of Great Mongolia. Prime Minister Koizumi also reconfirmed that this year be commemorated as the "Year of Mongolia in Japan" and that next year, which marks the 35th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between the two countries, be the "Year of Japan in Mongolia" in order to further strengthen the mutual understanding and mutual trust between Japan and Mongolia.

Prime Minister Koizumi also expressed his intention to continue assisting the efforts made by Mongolia for self-reliant development.

Prime Minister Enkhbold responded by explaining that the democratization process in Mongolia is advancing stably, while the country's economy is on its way to recovery and stabilization. He highly evaluated the tremendous contribution made by Japan's assistance and cooperation and expressed his gratitude for it.

After the meeting, letters on yen loans provided to Mongolia for the development of its small- and medium-sized enterprises, as well as for environmental protection, were exchanged in the presence of the two leaders.
