Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi received the "Report on the Modality of the Doshusei Regional System" from Mr. Ken Moroi, the Chair of the Local Government System Research Council, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

This report was decided at the general meeting of the Local Government System Research Council held on February 28. Under the policy of "leaving to the localities what they can do," the report presents the basic recognition that it is appropriate to introduce the Doshusei regional system in order to establish a "new image of the government" of Japan, as well as to further promote the decentralization of power, through the redesigning of government structures on both the national and local levels. The latest report in this way offers a concrete image of the Doshusei regional system together with the system design to serve as the foundation for national debates on this issue from here on.
