The first meeting of the Headquarters for the Promotion of Privatization of the Postal Services was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

The Headquarters for the Promotion of Privatization of the Postal Services was established on November 10 pursuant to The Law of The Privatization of the Postal Services (PPS) that was enacted at a previous special Diet session. The Headquarters is headed by Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi and is comprised of all Cabinet members. At the first meeting on November 15, the Headquarters confirmed and decided the "Schedule up to Implementation of Privatization" and the "Preparation for Establishment of Japan Postal Services Holding Company, which is in charge of preparation and planning of privatization" for the promotion of preparatory activities for privatization.

In his closing remarks, Prime Minister Koizumi said, "Privatization of the postal services, which is at the heart of reforms, is at last entering the stage for finalization. It is extremely important to realize a smooth and secure implementation of privatization in October 2007. I ask for your further cooperation in this."
