Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi held a meeting with H.E. Begum Khaleda Zia, the Prime Minister of the People's Republic of Bangladesh at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

At the meeting, Prime Minister Koizumi requested for Bangladesh's support towards the Draft Framework Resolution on Security Council Reform proposed by the Group of Four (G4: Japan, Germany, India and Brazil). To this, Prime Minister Zia reaffirmed Bangladesh's support for Japan's bid to become a permanent member of the United Nations (UN) Security Council and stated that it will give "due consideration" regarding its stance on the Draft Framework Resolution.

Prime Minister Koizumi also announced Japan's intent to enhance its assistance utilizing official development assistance (ODA) for the establishment of the Tsunami Early Warning System in the Indian Ocean based on the lessons learned from the earthquake off the coast of Sumatra Island.

Furthermore, an Exchange of Notes was concluded for Japan to provide grant assistance of 866 million yen on the project to develop meteorological radars in Bangladesh to detect and prepare for windstorms, high waters, floods and more. This Exchange of Notes took place with the attendance of both Prime Minister Koizumi and Prime Minister Zia.
