Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi received a courtesy call from the members of the UK-Japan 21st Century Group at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

Mr. Yasuhisa Shiozaki, the chairman of the Japanese side and a member of the House of Representatives of Japan, Mr. Jack Cunningham, the chairman of the United Kingdom (UK) side and a member of the UK Parliament, and 21 other members of the UK-Japan 21st Century Group visited Prime Minister Koizumi at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. Following an introduction given by Chairman Shiozaki on Chairman Cunningham, who was appointed last year to co-chair the Group, an explanation was given on the areas to be discussed at the 21st meeting of the UK-Japan 21st Century Group which is starting on this day. Chairman Cunningham conveyed a message from Prime Minister Tony Blair of the United Kingdom to Prime Minister Koizumi, which stated, "I look forward to seeing you at the G8 Gleneagles Summit in July."

Prime Minister Koizumi said that Japan places importance on the environmental issue, which UK views as one of the priority agenda items of this year's G8 Summit, and shared with the Group members Japan's environmental policies.
