The Joint Memorial Service by the Cabinet and Liberal Democratic Party for the late Mr. Zenko Suzuki, a former Prime Minister of Japan was held at a hotel in Tokyo.

Approximately 2,000 people, including Their Imperial Highnesses Prince and Princess Akishino and other members of the Imperial Family, both the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President of the House of Councillors, Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and representatives of various circles from across Japan as well as special envoys from 122 countries and foreign ambassadors in Tokyo attended the service and offered prayers for the repose of the soul of Mr. Zenko Suzuki, a former Prime Minister of Japan, who passed away at the age of 93 on July 19.

Prime Minister Koizumi who served as the Chairman of the Joint Memorial Service said in his memorial address, "The political philosophy that 'inequality is a concern' for the realization of social justice, as followed by Mr. Suzuki, who pursued the 'politics of harmony' by emphasizing the importance of talks, the foundation of democracy, reflected his peaceful and warm personality which contained his firm determination."
