Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi held talks with Dr. Megawati Soekarnoputri, the President of the Republic of Indonesia, at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

During the Summit Meeting, the two leaders shared the view that the nuclear issue in North Korea was of utmost concern to the international nuclear non-proliferation regime and they would call on North Korea to take responsible steps toward the resolution of this issue. In addition, the two leaders affirmed that they would establish a task force aiming for the conclusion of a Economic Partnership Agreement (EPA), resume the talks on an investment agreement, strengthen their cooperation on counterterrorism and regulation of piracy. These points were announced as the Joint Statement.

Furthermore, regarding the way to address the issue of illegal logging in Indonesia, the two leaders agreed to exchange information concerning trade in timber and other materials and relevant legal systems, and to undertake cooperation for human resource development.

Following the Summit Meeting, the two leaders attended a signing ceremony for the Joint Announcement on the Cooperation in Combating Illegal Logging and the Trade in Illegally Logged Timber and Wood Products between the Government of Japan and the Government of the Republic of Indonesia.
