Prime Minister Koizumi shakes hands with Prime Minister Oddsson of the Republic of Iceland Prime Minister Koizumi talks with Icelandic Prime Minister Oddsson

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi met with Prime Minister David Oddsson of the Republic of Iceland at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Koizumi and Prime Minister Oddsson agreed on the necessity for scientific research concerning commercial whaling. The two leaders also exchanged views on the future relations between Japan and Iceland, agreeing to further strengthen bilateral ties.

Prime Minister Koizumi also requested the participation of Iceland in the 2005 World Exposition, Aichi, Japan, to which Prime Minister Oddsson expressed his intention to take part in cooperation with the other Scandanavian countries.
