Prime Minister Meets with Prime Minister of Sri Lanka Thursday, December 5, 2002 Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi met with Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. During the meeting, Prime Minister Koizumi indicated a proactive involvement in advancing the peace negotiations and in the nation-building efforts underway in Sri Lanka stating, "Ensuring the peace of Sri Lanka is an important issue related to overall global stability." In this regard, Prime Minister Koizumi and Prime Minister Wickremesinghe agreed on the hosting in Tokyo next spring of the conference on reconstruction assistance to Sri Lanka to promote the recovery of Sri Lanka and to provide humanitarian assistance.
