Joint Meeting of the Council of Ministers for Global Environmental Conservation and the Global Warming Prevention Headquarters

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi attended the joint meeting of the Council of Ministers for Global Environmental Conservation and the Global Warming Prevention Headquarters held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

During the meeting, a decision was made on "Development of Systems to Utilize the Kyoto Mechanism," which provides for the establishment of a liaison committee by relevant ministries among other things, in order to develop domestic systems toward realizing emissions reductions stipulated in the Kyoto Protocol, based on the "Outline of Global Warming Prevention" decided in March of this year.

At the close of the meeting, Prime Minister Koizumi stated, "I would like to change lifestyles beginning with our immediate surroundings by introducing low-emission vehicles and energy-conserving home appliances, and build up the momentum for global warming prevention throughout Japan."
