Prime Minister Meets with President of Indonesia

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi met with President Megawati Sukarnoputri of the Republic of Indonesia at the Prime Minister's Official Residence.

In talks, Prime Minister Koizumi praised President Megawati's efforts for reform in Indonesia and noted his continuing support for the reforms in Indonesia. He stated that debt rescheduling would be dealt with in a flexible manner.

President Megawati expressed her gratitude for the Prime Minister's words pledging to continue to provide assistance to Indonesia, despite Japan's own stringent economic situation, and noted that while reform in Indonesia was a difficult challenge, she would continue to channel all her efforts into this goal. She also explained that she would continue to endeavor to improve the investment environment in Indonesia.

In addition, both leaders strongly condemned the recent terrorist attacks in the United States and affirmed their recognition of the immense importance of international cooperation in the face of terrorism.
