The Joint Meeting of the Special Public Institutions Reform Promotion Headquarter and the Cabinet Headquarters for Administrative Reform was held at the Prime Minister's Official Residence. At the meeting, concepts for revisions to the activities of special public institutions were presented.

Minister of State for Regulatory Reform Nobuteru Ishihara made the following statement, "From now we will continue to deepen discussions with each ministry and will work to formulate a rationalization plan for special public institutions before the end of the year. I ask for the cooperation of all ministers concerned in actively progressing with concrete reforms to the activities of the special public institutions and that these reforms can be reflected in the budget for FY2002."

At the closing of the meeting, Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi stated, "The Liberal Democratic Party has pledged to undertake reform since prior to the election. I expect the powerful leadership of ministers to revise the activities of the special public institutions from ground zero, assuming abolition and privatization as a starting point."
