The Conference on the Creation of "Wa-no-kuni" - An Eco-society Through Partnership - in the 21st Century convened at the Official Residence of the Prime Minister.

At the meeting the report of the Conference on the Creation of "Wa-no-kuni" - An Eco-society Through Partnership - in the 21st Century was compiled. In the report the following points were laid out: (1) A global cycle - creating an eco-society that co-exists in harmony with the global environment; (2) The environmental and economic cycles aiming for an eco-friendly industrial revolution; (3) Recycling - towards the realization of a recycling society with a zero waste strategy; (4) The eco-system cycle - Ensuring nature and society can live together; and (5) Person-to-person cycle - aiming for people to cooperate in the creation of an eco-society through partnership.

Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi noted that, "I have recently visited the United States, the United Kingdom and France, where in talks with the leaders of those countries it was confirmed that the issues associated with the environment are the most important the human race is currently facing, making the Kyoto Protocol one of enormous global importance." The Prime Minister also stated that, "Environmental issues are one of the most important challenges facing the Koizumi Cabinet. We will seriously take on board the report by this conference and strive to improve the Japanese environment and the global environment, and for this I ask for your cooperation."
