Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the 18th Ministerial Meeting Concerning Measures Against Crime at the Diet building.

During the meeting, a decision was made to establish a "working team concerning the investigation system of the cause of death" toward building an investigation system that prevents the overlooking of deaths due to crime, and discussion took place on the progress of measures against crime, among other matters.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said, "Concerning the disaster areas, in particular the no-entry zone and planned evacuation zones, people have very strong concerns that their houses might be robbed during their absence. For this, I ask you to be thorough with the maintenance of public order. Above anything, the first basic condition for restoration and reconstruction is good public order.
Another point is the decision made to establish a working team concerning the overlooking of deaths caused by crime, in order not to let this happen. A considerable number of cases have been reported so far in which various crimes were overlooked due to the lack of an autopsy.
In this context, I would like the related ministries and agencies to closely cooperate in moving the deliberation forward for building a system to investigate the truth, and commit themselves to not letting deaths due to crime be overlooked."
