Prime Minister Naoto Kan held a meeting of the Council for Intensive Discussion on Social Security Reform at the Prime Minister's Office.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said, "The final draft plan was compiled by the Council on June 30 and reported to the Cabinet meeting on July 1. In this way, the final draft plan has established itself as a key document.
Ever since the Council for Intensive Discussion was established in February, the members of the Council - not only the politicians, of course, but also private sector members - have truly spent many hours carrying out very substantive discussions. This not only contributed to enriching the contents of the final draft plan. I believe because the final draft plan was created through discussions that truly incorporated a wide range of public opinions, the discussions were the biggest factor which led to the compilation of the final draft plan in which the public has confidence. For this and more generally, I would like to especially express my sincere appreciation to the private sector members of the Council."
