The 12th meeting of the Reconstruction Design Council in Response to the Great East Japan Earthquake was held.

At the meeting, a proposal entitled, "Towards Reconstruction - Hope beyond the Disaster," was approved and handed to Prime Minister Naoto Kan by Dr. Makoto Iokibe, Chair of the Council.

Upon receiving the proposal, the Prime Minister said, "The Council has held twelve meetings since it first met on April 14, and had extremely deep discussions sometimes stretching over five hours, leading to the finalization of the reconstruction proposal today.
I am absolutely confident that I have received a useful proposal that is worthy to be remembered for ages to come. It addresses such big issues as economic problems, the way the society and community should be, and the nuclear incident issues. Moving forward, I would like to utilize this proposal to the fullest extent possible in advancing reconstruction. The Basic Act on Reconstruction has already been enacted and promulgated, and I intend to formally launch a Reconstruction Headquarters at the beginning of next week to formulate guidelines based on this proposal."
