Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the third Final Draft Preparation Meeting of the Headquarters of the Government and Ruling Parties for Social Security Reform at the Prime Minister's Office.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said, "The issue of how to shape or how to maintain the social security system in a sustainable manner for the future is a truly enormous challenge which cannot be avoided.
So far you have made tremendous efforts, and substantive discussions have taken place. In order to avoid putting off this issue at all costs, I would appreciate your final efforts.
The goal is to have a final draft ready on June 20 as planned. To this end, although there are few days and little time remaining, I sincerely ask that further intensive discussions are held and further efforts are made so that we shall be able to present a uniform course of action."
