On May 26 (local time), Prime Minister Naoto Kan, after travelling from Paris to Deauville - the venue of the G8 Deauville Summit, held talks with Mr. Stephen Joseph Harper, Prime Minister of Canada, prior to the G8 Summit.
Later, Prime Minister Kan was welcomed by Mr. Nicolas Sarkozy, President of the French Republic, which was followed by a working lunch marking the start of the G8 Deauville Summit. At the working lunch with the theme of "Solidarity with Japan and Global Economy," Prime Minister Kan delivered the opening statement.
In the afternoon, Prime Minister Kan attended the G8 sessions on the themes of "Nuclear Safety - Climate Change" and "The Internet" and held discussions.
Afterwards, Prime Minister Kan held talks with Mr. Barack Obama, President of the United States of America.
In the evening, Prime Minister Kan attended a working dinner on the theme of "The Arab Springs (Middle East and North Africa Situation, etc.)."
