Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the eighth meeting of the Council on the Realization of the New Growth Strategy at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on new challenges associated with the growth strategy.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "On May 17, the Cabinet compiled policy guidelines as to how we should advance the New Growth Strategy going forward in light of the latest disaster, and decided to restart discussion on the New Growth Strategy.
I look forward to hearing constructive discussion and gathering all expertise in order for Japan to overcome the current crisis caused by this disaster, as well as the structural crisis it has been facing since before the disaster."
