Prime Minister Naoto Kan visited earthquake disaster areas and an evacuation center in Miyagi Prefecture, to grasp the extent of the damage caused by the Great East Japan Earthquake.

Arriving at Matsushima Air Base of the Air Self-Defense Force (ASDF), the Prime Minister toured the base which was damaged by the large-scale tsunami, and gave words of encouragement to the members of the Self-Defense Forces (SDF) and others there. The Prime Minister then visited the Ishinomaki City Office and received reports from Mr. Yoshihiro Murai, Governor of Miyagi Prefecture, Mr. Hiroshi Kameyama, Mayor of Ishinomaki City, Mr. Hideo Abe, Mayor of Higashimatsushima City, Mr. Nobutaka Azumi, Mayor of Onagawa Town, and others.

Then the Prime Minister surveyed the status of damage in Ishinomaki City, and visited one of the evacuation centers.

Later, the Prime Minister visited the Northeastern Army Headquarters, SDF, in Sendai City, and gave words of encouragement to the SDF members engaged in reconstruction and other activities following the Great East Japan Earthquake.
