Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the third meeting of the Headquarters of the Government and Ruling Parties for Social Security Reform at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on the promotion of social security reform.

Based on the discussion, the Prime Minister said, "I understand that each one of you is fully aware of the gravity of this issue. I want you to make efforts to produce the kind of results that will cause those looking back on the past in 30 or 50 years to say that 2011 was the year when measures for a new and sustainable social security system began.
Advancing discussion with the people of Japan is very important. The decisions to be made today include those on the setting of meetings for national debate. In tackling this issue, I want everyone to hold dear this perspective"
