On October 30 (local time), Prime Minister Naoto Kan attended the East Asia Summit (EAS) held in Hanoi, Socialist Republic of Viet Nam. The meeting was attended by the leaders of the 10 member countries of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations), Japan, China, the Republic of Korea (ROK), India, Australia, and New Zealand.

Prime Minister Kan also held bilateral meetings with Mr. Lee Hsien Loong, the Prime Minister of the Republic of Singapore, and Mr. John Key, Prime Minister of New Zealand, and attended a luncheon hosted by Mr. Nguyen Minh Triet, President of Viet Nam.

Later, Prime Minister Kan held a press conference.

Then, as a part of the official bilateral visit, Prime Minister Kan paid a courtesy call on President Triet of Viet Nam.
