Prime Minister Naoto Kan held the first meeting of the Council on the Promotion of "New Public Commons" at the Prime Minister's Office.

Discussion took place on the Council's agenda, among other matters.

The Prime Minister said in his opening address, "I believe that the area of 'New Public Commons,' together with work undertaken by public or private entities, the latter including profit-making businesses, should, in a sense, be the foundation of society and the core basis for societal restructuring. I hope that the Council will play a leading role and present a model in this regard."
